When you’re looking to take a break from busy cities like Dubai and the dusty deserts, there’s always the small-town life to explore. One of these towns is the proud town of Khorfakkan, located in the emirate of Sharjah, along the east coast. Literally translated to “Creek of Two Jaws,” Khorfakkan is a coastal town between two headlands. The town’s location makes it a major port in the Emirates–and a must-see tourist spot. Here are the top free things to do in Khorfakkan, UAE.
Learn a bit of history at the Resistance Monument
As you likely know, the UAE was invaded by the Portuguese in the early 1500s due to the area’s richness in spices. However, the Emirati locals did not go down without a fight and fought to repel the Portuguese when they invaded. The Resistance Monument was built to honor the brave people of Khorfakkan who sacrificed their lives to defend their land.
The Resistance Monument is open daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with free admission to the memorial as well.
