Learn a bit of history at the Resistance Monument

As you likely know, the UAE was invaded by the Portuguese in the early 1500s due to the area’s richness in spices. However, the Emirati locals did not go down without a fight and fought to repel the Portuguese when they invaded. The Resistance Monument was built to honor the brave people of Khorfakkan who sacrificed their lives to defend their land.

The Resistance Monument is open daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with free admission to the memorial as well.

Snap a few shots at Al Rafisah Dam

If you want to practice your travel photography skills, you might want to consider dropping by Al Rafisah Dam. The sapphire blue waters and the marvelous mountains surrounding it make for a perfect muse for your next Instagram photo dump. The area is also home to a variety of wildlife, such as fish, ducks, and deer, which can also be great photo subjects.

Hopefully, you’re not afraid of heights, though, as the area is over 600m above sea level. Parking and entrance are completely free–as long as you buy something at the nearby restaurant.

Have a picnic at Shees Park

Up for some outdoor fun? Shees Park is a lovely public space open to everyone. It’s a great place to have a picnic with your family, friends, or travel group because of the openness and scenery. The nearby mountains also serve as a beautiful backdrop as well. Be sure to pack your walking shoes, though, as it’s about a 30-40 minute walk from the rest of the town.

Hike up the Al Rabi trail

If you’re looking for a relatively easy yet enjoyable hike, the mountains to the East of Khor Fakkan have the Al Rabi trail! Being only a 6km hike and with a peak elevation of 395m, the Al Rabi hiking trail isn’t very challenging and is welcoming to beginner hikers. The view from the top is marvelous, and you’ll get to see the town and the surrounding shores in all of their glory.
